A note before anything else

If you’ve found your way here, maybe something has been sitting heavy for a while. It might be one big thing. It might be a hundred small ones that never got a name.

You don’t have to have it figured out before you reach out, and you don’t need a reason that sounds serious enough. Sometimes it helps to say things out loud to someone who is really listening.

That’s what this space is for.

With warmth, Tammy

About me

Hello, I’m Tamanna. Most people call me Tammy.

I offer counselling online and in person at House of Therapy in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. My sessions are free, so cost doesn’t have to stand between you and some support.

In our time together, you set the direction. I’ll listen closely, without judgement, and help you make sense of things in your own words. Some days that means working through something specific. Other days it means having a place to let it all out.

I’m in the second year of my MSc in Counselling Psychology and practise as a trainee counsellor under supervision.

How I work

You lead, I listen, and we go at your pace.

I practise person-centred therapy, an approach developed by the psychologist Carl Rogers. It starts from the belief that you already know a great deal about what you need, and that people tend to grow when they feel understood. My job is to make the room safe enough for that to happen.

  1. Empathy

    Empathic understanding

I listen for how things feel from where you’re standing. When I’m not sure I’ve understood, I’ll ask.

  2. Acceptance

    Unconditional positive regard

You can bring the parts of yourself you usually keep hidden. I won’t judge them, and I won’t try to fix you.

  3. Genuineness

    Congruence

I show up as myself and tell you honestly what I notice. I don’t pretend to have every answer.

Let’s talk about

Whatever’s on your mind has a place here

These are some of the things people often bring. Think of them as a starting point.

  • Relationships

Partners, family, friends, and the ones that are hard to put a label on.

  • Interpersonal

Feeling misunderstood, or finding it hard to connect with the people around you.

  • Stress

Work, studies, deadlines, and a mind that never seems to switch off.

  • Anxiety

Racing thoughts, constant worry, a body that won’t settle down.

  • Self-esteem

The voice that says you aren’t enough, and where it might have come from.

  • Conflicts

Arguments that keep coming back, with other people or with yourself.

If what you’re feeling doesn’t fit any of these, bring it anyway.

Questions

Things you might be wondering

It’s normal to have questions before you start. If yours isn’t here, ask me directly.

  • Yes. I offer these sessions pro bono while I train, so you won’t pay anything for them.

  • Anyone who wants a space to talk about what’s going on for them. You don’t need a diagnosis, and you don’t need a reason that feels “big enough”.

  • Mostly, we get to know each other. I might ask what brought you here and what you’re hoping for, but you choose what to share. If you’d like to sit quietly for a bit before you start, that’s okay too.

  • Yes. What you share stays between us. As part of my training I talk about my work with my supervisor, and I leave out anything that could identify you. The one exception is if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. If that ever happens, I’ll talk it through with you first wherever I can.

  • I’m in the second year of my MSc in Counselling Psychology. I see clients under supervision, so an experienced professional guides my work and helps me look after you well.

  • Of course. English, Hindi, or whatever mix of the two comes naturally to you.

  • We’ll decide that together, based on what feels useful to you. You can change your mind about it at any point.

  • I may not be able to reply quickly in a crisis. Please call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or iCall on +91 9152 987 821. If you’re in immediate danger, go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Whenever you’re ready

A simple “hi” is enough to begin.

There’s no right moment and no perfect way to say it. Write to me however feels easiest, and I’ll get back to you within 24 to 48 hours.
